First-Generation & Multicultural Therapy
You shouldn't have to choose between honoring your culture and honoring yourself.
Growing up between cultures can be both enriching and challenging. You may deeply value your family's traditions while also trying to build a life that reflects your own goals, relationships, and identity. Therapy offers a supportive, culturally responsive space to explore these experiences while honoring every part of who you are.
Whether you're navigating family expectations, balancing multiple cultural identities, or working toward healthier relationships and boundaries, you deserve a space where your experiences are understood without judgment.

Does This Feel Familiar?
Many people growing up between cultures share experiences like these:
You feel like you're balancing two different cultures or ways of life.
Setting boundaries with family leaves you feeling guilty or conflicted.
You carry the weight of family expectations while trying to pursue your own goals.
You often feel responsible for keeping peace within your family, even at the expense of your own needs.
You sometimes feel like you don't fully belong in either culture or that you're expected to be different depending on who you're with.
You're navigating relationships where cultural values create additional challenges.
You want to honor your family's traditions while also building a life that feels authentic to you.
Every person's experience is unique. Whether you're first-generation, part of a multicultural family, or navigating cultural expectations in another way, therapy offers a supportive space to explore these experiences without judgment.
How Therapy Can Help
Growing up between cultures often means carrying responsibilities, expectations, and experiences that others may not fully understand. Therapy provides a supportive space to explore these challenges while helping you move toward a life that feels more balanced and authentic.
Together, we may focus on:
Building healthy boundaries while maintaining meaningful relationships.
Managing guilt, anxiety, or the pressure to meet others' expectations.
Strengthening your sense of identity and self-confidence.
Improving communication with family, partners, and loved ones.
Navigating life transitions while staying connected to your values.
Creating healthier relationship patterns that honor both your culture and your individual needs.
My goal isn't to encourage you to choose between your culture and yourself. It's to help you discover ways to honor your background while creating a life that aligns with your own values and goals.
My Approach
For many first-generation adults and individuals from multicultural backgrounds, discussing personal struggles can feel difficult. Family expectations, cultural values, or concerns about shame, guilt, or disappointing others may make it hard to openly talk about relationship challenges, anxiety, or emotional pain.
Therapy provides a confidential, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can speak freely about experiences that may have felt too difficult, uncomfortable, or shameful to discuss elsewhere. You don't have to worry about being judged or burdening the people you care about. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported as we work together.
Whether you're navigating family expectations, balancing multiple cultures, or simply looking for a therapist who understands the importance of cultural identity, you deserve a place where your voice is heard, your experiences are respected, and you never have to face life's challenges alone.

Do I have to be first-generation to benefit from this type of therapy?
Not at all. This specialty is designed for anyone navigating multiple cultures, family expectations, cultural identity, or the unique challenges that can come with multicultural relationships and backgrounds.
Will you understand my culture?
Every person's experience is different, and I never assume that two individuals or families share the same beliefs or traditions. My goal is to understand your unique experiences, values, and perspective while providing culturally responsive, individualized care.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is a private and confidential space where you can speak openly about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, which we will review together before beginning treatment.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. All appointments are conducted through secure telehealth, allowing you to receive care from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Which states do you serve?
I provide telehealth therapy to adults in Ohio, Michigan, California, and more than 40 PSYPACT participating states.
What is PSYPACT?
